Workshops

Mindfulness is a skill that can be learned, and when honed, it is an inner energy that you can call upon to heal yourself. Mindfulness can help improve the quality of your life and the well-being of those around you. The many physical, emotional, and psychological benefits of mindfulness have decades of confirmation by hundreds of research studies, including those listed in various branches of the National Institutes of Health.

In this workshop seasoned mindfulness and meditation practitioners, Wan and Marshall, will employ ways to nurture and practice mindfulness through meditation, wisdom (dharma) teaching, and group sharing.  Using an interactive design approach to best serve the interests of the participants in the moment, this workshop is dynamic, participatory and intended to encourage you to co-create a more peaceful world by cultivating peace in yourself.

Mindfulness meditation is uncomplicated. The purpose of meditation is not to torture ourselves into stiffness nor to forcefully silence the incessant thoughts in our minds but to learn to be calm and care for ourselves with kindness and compassion. Meditation is a form of self-therapy. You are invited to enjoy walking, sitting, and even laying down postures as long as these are comfortable for you. Several short practices will be offered and you are welcome to participate or just silently observe.

The dharma teaching will arise from questions, concerns, and insights of participants who choose to share them in the moment. The facilitators will guide the teaching while demonstrating deep listening and loving speech which they have learned from decades of daily practice and that is informed by the teachings of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. Wisdom masters throughout the ages will also be referenced as appropriate.
